An illustrious figure, Jorge Blanco’s “The Castaway” was first published in Venezuela in 1980 in the newspaper El Diario de Caracas. Under its original title “El Náugrafo,” the charm, humor, and wit of Blanco’s illustrations created the most iconic comic strip in the history of Venezuela. Since its debut 8 “The Castaway” books have been published, for which Blanco has created hundreds of comic strips exclusively for each book.
In addition to the comic strip format, Blanco creates a remarkable watercolor series based on “The Castaway.” Brilliantly colored these watercolors communicate stories of joy, imagination, and profound emotion through single-image narratives. A tiny island and single palm tree offer infinite adventures for Blanco’s friendly Castaway, whose philosophical reflections and spontaneous creativity shows us the joy of living.
